PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today purchased the contract of Portland right-handed pitcher Aaron Rakers (ROCK-erz) and optioned infielder/outfielder Paul McAnulty to the Beavers.

Rakers, 30, was 0-0 with a 1.00 ERA (1er, 9.0ip) and seven strikeouts in five relief appearances with Portland. In parts of two major league seasons with Baltimore (2004-05), Rakers is 1-0 with a 3.50 ERA (7er, 18.0ip) in 13 relief appearances.

McAnulty, 26, was batting .125 (1-for-8) with a double and a run scored in eight games with the Padres to start the season. In parts of three major league seasons (2005-07), McAnulty has a .200 batting average (9-for-45) with two doubles, one home run and three RBIs over 46 games with San Diego. In two previous seasons with Portland (2005-06), McAnulty is batting .318 with 103 runs scored, 49 doubles, 25 home runs and 106 RBIs in 163 games played.

The Beavers' active roster remains at its 24-man limit.
