Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins capped another successful three-game weekend by sweeping their set of games and moving their AHL best point streak up to 12 games. The P-Bruins earned a 5-3 win Friday at home versus the Toronto Marlies, a 3-1 road win against the Albany Devils Saturday and a 2-1 shootout win at home Sunday against the Hartford Wolf Pack. The team now has 31 points and sits fifth in the Atlantic Division, but are only four points behind first place in a very tight division. Over their 12 game point streak, the team is 8-0-2-2 with 20 points.
Peter Cehlarik led Providence in goals for the weekend with three and added a game-winning shootout goal Sunday for good measure. This should come as no surprise, as the rookie leads the P-Bruins with 11 goals this season. He is tied for first in that category among rookies and is eighth overall in rookie scoring with 16 points.
Jordan Szwarz led the P-Bruins in scoring with four points (1 goal, 3 assists), but Wayne Simpson leads overall in scoring with 21 points for the season (8 goals, 13 assists). He also leads the team with a +14 rating, good for second best in the AHL. In net both goaltenders played well, but Zane McIntyre earned two of the three wins between the pipes stopping 58 of 62 combined shots in his victories.
The roster saw plenty of shakeup over the weekend, particularly with NHL call-ups. After being sent to Providence following a lower body injury, Noel Acciari played just one game with the P-Bruins Friday before he and Danton Heinen were promoted to Boston on Saturday. Anton Blidh was returned to Providence as the corresponding move, while Brock Higgs and Dan Vladar were sent to the Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL.
It will be busy week ahead for the P-Bruins as they begin the weekend Friday at home versus Bridgeport followed by a Saturday tilt at Lehigh Valley, two teams in front of them in the Atlantic Division. They finish up Sunday at home against the North Division leading Syracuse Crunch.
