
Defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron Inks PTO Contract with Monsters

CLEVELAND - The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, announced Tuesday that veteran defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron signed a 25-game professional tryout contract with the team on Monday. A 5'9", 198 lb. left-handed native of Trois-Rivieres, QC, Bergeron, 36, posted 0-1-1 with a -1 rating and four shots on goal in four preseason appearances for the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets prior to the 2016-17 season.
An undrafted 16th-year professional, Bergeron posted 82-153-235 with 214 penalty minutes and a -12 rating in 490 career NHL appearances spanning parts of ten seasons from 2002-13 with the Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes. In 149 career AHL games played spanning parts of five seasons from 2001-04 and 2009-11 with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Toronto Roadrunners and Norfolk Admirals, Bergeron contributed 16-59-75 with 163 penalty minutes and a +46 rating.
Most recently, Bergeron logged 18-60-78 with 100 penalty minutes and a +50 rating in 135 appearances for Zurich SC of Switzerland's NLA spanning three seasons from 2013-16, helping Zurich claim the 2014 NLA Championship and the 2016 Swiss Cup. Bergeron will wear number 23 for Cleveland.
