St. John's, NFLD - The Providence Bruins defeated the St. John's IceCaps 3-2 Tuesday evening. Matt Lindblad, Craig Cunningham and Anthony Camara each had a goal, while Malcolm Subban made 27 saves in the victory.
After a scoreless opening period, Lindblad got the P-Bruins on the scoreboard only 27 seconds into the second period. Nick Johnson had possession behind the net and passed to Lindblad in front who beat IceCaps goaltender Michael Hutchinson glove side for his seventh goal of the season. Joe Morrow recorded the second assist. The IceCaps tied the game at one at the 4:33 mark, while on the power play. Adam Lowry sent the puck into the net for his ninth goal of the season after some activity in front had Subban scrambling. Jerome Samson and Will O'Neill had the assists on the goal as the game went into the second intermission tied at one.
Providence retook the lead at the 11:10 mark when Samson turned the puck over while on the power play in the Providence zone, which lead to a breakaway chance for Cunningham who went in and backhanded the puck top shelf for his 18 th goal of the season. Matt Fraser assisted on the goal. The offensive pressure did not end there as soon after Alexander Khokhlachev rushed into the zone and went behind the net, passing the puck to Camara in front who scored his eighth goal of the season to make it 3-1. The IceCaps pulled within a goal at the 16:43 mark when Ben Chiarot tallied his fourth goal of the season. It was an unassisted goal. Despite the late goal, the P-Bruins held on to win 3-2.
Subban stopped 27 of 29 shots for the P-Bruins, while Hutchinson made 28 saves for the IceCaps. The P-Bruins went 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins continue a five game road trip Wednesday against the IceCaps at 6:00pm. Providence returns to the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday, February 9 at 3:05pm against the Springfield Falcons.
