
P-Bruins Fall to Pirates 4-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 4-2 Friday evening in front of 8,419 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Martins Karsums and Pascal Pelletier. The 38-11-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday at the MassMutual Center versus the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m. Providence is now six points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The P-Bruins took the lead at the 6:40 mark of the opening period. Tuukka Rask played the puck behind his net and dropped it off for Brett Skinner. He worked it through the neutral zone before passing it off to Karsums. Skating down the right wing, Karsums shot the puck past Pirates goaltender Mike McKenna and into the net. The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Portland tied the game at one at the 5:57 mark of the second period. Andrew Ebbett tallied his 12th goal of the season, with Joe Callahan and Tyler Bouck recording the assists. The Pirates took the lead at the 9:46 mark of the period. Jason King scored his 21st goal of the season, while Bouck picked up the lone assist. Portland added another goal in the period at the 11:37 mark. Bobby Ryan scored for the 17th time this season as Brian Salcido and Geoff Platt had the assists. Portland took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
Portland took a 4-1 advantage at the 11:19 mark of the third period. King scored his second goal of the game and 23rd goal of the season. Ebbett and Callahan grabbed the assists. Providence pulled within two, while on the power play at the 12:34 mark. Byron Bitz sent the puck to Karsums in the corner. He found Pelletier backdoor, who scored his 27th goal of the season. Portland held on for the 4-2 victory.
Rask stopped 23 of 27 shots for the P-Bruins, while McKenna made 29 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 1-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday against the Lowell Devils for a Family Game at 4:05 p.m. Purchase one ticket, hot dog and soda package starting as low as $16.
