Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Tragedy struck the campus of Northern Illinois University and the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League will remember the victims this weekend. Rockford is located just over 30 minutes from the NIU campus in Dekalb, Ill.
The IceHogs, in agreement with the Quad City Flames, Chicago Wolves and AHL, will wear their red jerseys on Friday and Saturday night during the team's two home games at the Rockford MetroCentre. The IceHogs are also asking their fans to wear red in a tribute to the students, faculty and staff at NIU.
"The IceHogs family would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims, families, student body and faculty at Northern Illinois University," said IceHogs President Ryan Washatka. "A tragedy of this magnitude is hard to comprehend, and our condolences are with the University."
Black and red ribbons will also be available for fans courtesy of the Rockford IceHogs Booster Club at the Booster Club table located in the concourse. IceHogs coaches and staff will wear the ribbons as well. Fans will have an opportunity to sign a 5' by 16' banner that will be located in the upper concourse during Saturday's game against the Wolves.
NIU students will be granted free admission, with a valid student ID, to either of Rockford's games on Sunday, Feb. 24 and Wednesday, Feb. 27.
