
P-Bruins Fall to Falcons in Shootout 4-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Springfield Falcons 4-3 in a shootout Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their regulation goals from Martins Karsums, Byron Bitz and Pascal Pelletier. The 48-16-3-4 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday against the Portland Pirates at the Dunkin' Donuts Center at 7:05 p.m. Providence is now six points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Falcons took the 1-0 advantage at the 9:50 mark of the opening period. Tim Sestito netted his sixth goal of the season, while Grant Potulny and Jacob Micflikier recorded the assists. Providence tied the game at one at the 10:39 mark. Dwayne Zinger grabbed the puck at the left point and sent it to Brett Skinner at the right point. He put a shot on net and the rebound came to Karsums who scored his 16th goal of the season from the slot. The game went into the first intermission tied at one.
Springfield took the lead quickly into the second period at the 32 second mark. Liam Reddox tallied his 15th goal of the season. Rob Schremp and Ben Simon picked up the assists. The Falcons took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
In the third period, the P-Bruins tied the game at two at the 1:42 mark. Matt Hunwick grabbed the puck in his own zone and skated it up through the neutral zone. He left it off for Bitz who circled around with the puck in the Falcons zone before backhanding the puck past Springfield goaltender Devan Dubnyk and into the net for his tenth goal of the season. Providence took its first lead of the game at the 6:37 mark, while shorthanded. Zinger chipped the puck along the boards to Karsums, who fed the puck to Pelletier. He netted his 34th goal of the season. Springfield tied the game at three at the 10:51 mark. Stephen Werner scored his eighth goal of the season, while Cody Wild and Micflikier had the assists. The game went into overtime tied at three.
After a scoreless overtime, the lone shooter to score for the P-Bruins in the shootout was Skinner. Reddox and Schremp each netted goals for the Falcons as they went onto the 4-3 shootout victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 28 of 31 shots for the P-Bruins, while Dubnyk made 33 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins went 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
