Toronto Marlies News Release

The Toronto Marlies are proud to announce that defenceman Phil Oreskovic has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Greater Toronto Area community during the 2007-08 season.

In addition to Oreskovic's contributions on the ice, he donated his time on numerous occasions to have a positive impact in the community. He was a part of a program started by CTV called Toy Mountain, which began during the holiday season. Oreskovic was at Toronto's City Hall to go on television to encourage people around Toronto to donate new and used toys to kids who might not receive Christmas gifts otherwise. Oreskovic was also heavily involved in the Toronto Marlies Anti-bullying assemblies with The Safe School Network. This community initiative sees him speak at various school assemblies throughout the GTA.

Oreskovic is now one of 29 finalists for the AHL's 2007-08 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the AHL in the coming weeks.

The Marlies take on the Lake Erie Monsters - AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche - tonight at 7:30 p.m. Toronto hosts two games this weekend at Ricoh Coliseum. They play their division-rival Manitoba Moose - AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks - tonight at 7 p.m. The Marlies take on the Lake Erie Monsters - AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche - for the second time this week on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. For ticket information, visit www.torontomarlies.com or call the team's ticket line at 416-597-PUCK.
