Manchester Monarchs News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The Manchester Monarchs (34-29-5-4) shut out the Norfolk Admirals (25-41-2-5) 4-0 on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
The AHL's top-ranked power play put Manchester on top at 11:58 when Brian Boyle accepted a cross-ice feed at the right faceoff circle and sent a wrist shot past Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin.
The Monarchs doubled their lead late in the first period. Josh Kidd sent a shot from the right half wall that Boutin stopped. However, Manchester's leading goal scorer Matt Moulson picked up the rebound and stashed it home at 19:14.
Marc-Andre Cliche made it 3-0 in favor of the visitors early in the second period. The puck emerged out of a goalmouth scramble to the bottom of the right circle where Cliche found it and sent it high past a prone Boutin at 3:14.
Brady Murray closed scoring at 12:53 of the final frame when he collected the rebound of a point shot and sent it into the cage from the bottom of the right circle.
Jonathan Boutin (36 shots, 32 saves) was saddled with the loss on his 23rd birthday. Jonathan Quick stopped all 26 shots he faced to earn the shutout victory.
Norfolk was 0-4 on the power play. Manchester was 1-3.
The Admirals will conclude their eight-game homestand tomorrow night with a rematch against the Monarchs at 7:15. Immediately following the game, the Admirals will hold their annual MDA Jersey Auction Presented by PAPCO. The special alternate jerseys worn by the Admirals tonight and tomorrow will be sold right off the players' backs during a live auction on the ice. All proceeds go to the local chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
