Falcons Beat Bruins 4-3 In A Shootout

March 28, 2008 - The Springfield Falcons beat the Providence Bruins 4-3 in a shootout on Friday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence. The Falcons' win was a big two points to keep Springfield only three points behind Manchester for the final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division.

The Falcons opened the scoring at 9:50 of the first period when Tim Sestito tallied his sixth goal of the season giving Springfield a 1-0 lead. Providence evened the score at 1-1 when Martins Karsums scored at 10:39 of the opening frame.

The Falcons regained their one-goal lead just 32-seconds into the second period when Liam Reddox scored his 15th marker of the season putting Springfield on top 2-1 through 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, Providence tied the score at 2-2 when Byron Bitz scored his 10th goal of the season at 1:42, followed by Pascal Pelletier scoring a shorthanded marker at 6:37 of the final frame giving the Bruins their first lead of the night at 3-2. Springfield rallied to tie the score at 3-3 when Stephen Werner redirected Cody Wild's shot from the right point past Providence goaltender Tuukka Rask at 10:51 of the third period.

After a scoreless overtime, Reddox and Rob Schremp converted in the shootout for the Falcons, while goaltender Devan Dubnyk stopped four of five shooters in the extra session.
