
P-Bruins Fall to Devils in Overtime 4-3

Lowell, MA - The Providence Bruins fell to the Lowell Devils 4-3 in overtime Saturday evening at the Tsongas Arena. The P-Bruins got goals from Dennis Packard, Marco Rosa and T.J. Trevelyan. Providence falls to fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 88 points and a 41-30-2-4 record, one behind the second place Worcester Sharks and three points ahead of the fifth place Devils.
The Devils scored the lone goal in the opening period. At the 14:13 mark, Rod Pelley banked the puck off the pads of P-Bruins net minder Hannu Toivonen and into the net. Ryan Murphy and Mark Fraser had the assists.
In the second period the P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 4:07 mark. Rosa dug the puck out of the corner and sent a shot towards the net, which Devils goaltender Frank Doyle stop. The rebound went right to Packard, who sent the puck into the net. Sean Bentivoglio had the second assist. Lowell retook the lead at the 12:02 mark. Providence turned the puck over in its own end and Stephen Gionta capitalized on the unassisted goal. The P-Bruins answered back at the 13:42 mark. Matt Lashoff carried the puck into the zone and made a pass to an open Rosa cutting down the right wing. With Doyle on the wrong side of the net Rosa scored to send the game into the second intermission tied at two. Ross Carlson had the second assist and his first professional point.
I the third period, the Devils took the 3-2 lead at the 13:47 mark. Barry Tallackson tallied his tenth goal of the season with Mike Mottau and Tomas Harant getting the assists. Providence tied the game at three while on the power play at the 15:00 mark. Ben Walter made a pass from behind the Devils net to Trevelyan parked in front. He sent the puck past Doyle and into the net to force overtime. David Krejci recorded the second assist.
In the extra session Trevelyan took a tripping penalty and moments later the Devils Dan McGillis scored, with Mottau and Chris Minard getting the assists.
Toivonen stopped 38 of 42 shots for the P-Bruins, while Doyle made 29 saves for the Devils. Providence was 1 for 3 on the power play, while Lowell went 1 for 6 on the man-advantage.
The P-Bruins wrap up the regular season with three games next weekend. Providence visits the Worcester Sharks on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins finish the road portion of the regular season schedule on Saturday at the MassMutual Center versus the Springfield Falcons at 7:05p.m. The P-Bruins wrap up the regular season with a home game at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday, April 15 versus the Manchester Monarchs at 4:05 p.m. For ticket information, call the P-Bruins ticket office at 401-273-5000 or log onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
