Knights Blanked By Aeros, 1-0

April 7, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

The Houston Aeros got 41 saves from goaltender Tony Quesada to beat the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 1-0 in overtime on Saturday at the Civic Auditorium. It was the final meeting of the regular season between the West Division rivals.

The two teams played a scoreless first period that had little flow because of continuing problems with the game clock. The Knights outshot the Aeros 10-4.

In the second period, it was more of the same with Curtis McElhinney and Quesada stopping everything that came their way. Again, the Knights had the heavy advantage in shots at 18-9.

The Knights seemed to be ramping up their attack in the third period as they fired 12 more shots at Quesada but to no avail.

The deciding goal came in the final minute of the overtime. The Knights were unable to clear the puck from their own zone. Jason Morgan found Curtis Murphy sneaking in from the left point. He jammed the pass over McElhinney to end it.

The Knights are now 46-24-5-1. It was just the second win for the Aeros in the season series. The Knights were 8-0-1-1 against Houston this year. The point they earned for the overtime loss allows them to maintain sole possession of first place in the West. The Chicago Wolves beat Grand Rapids to move to within one point of the top spot

Three Stars: 1.. Curtis Murphy (HOU) - Game-winning goal; 2. Tony Quesada (HOU) - 41 saves; 3. Curtis McElhinney (OMA) - 18 saves
