Bears win 48th game, blasting Norfolk 6-1

A match-up of American Hockey League heavyweights Saturday night turned into a lopsided affair as the BEARS blasted the Norfolk Admirals 6-1 at GIANT Center. The victory kept HERSHEY in first place with four games remaining with 108 points.

HERSHEY would strike first and head to first intermission with a 1-0 lead With Andy Hedlund in the penalty box for a tripping penalty at 12:02, Matt Hendricks scored a short-handed goal for his 18th goal of the year The goal at 12:28 was assisted by Chris Bourque, and gave the Chocolate and White the early advantage. Despite just six shots in the first period, the BEARS led 1-0.

The BEARS tied a season high with five-second period goals to take a 6-1 lead after 40 minutes. Deryk Engelland opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season at 6:52 before Joey Tenute scored his 26th marker of the year at 9:12. Kyle Wilson scored his 22nd of the second at 10:49 to give HERSHEY a 4-1 lead, and Tenute struck again at 14:26 to increase the lead to 5-1. Norfolk goaltender Corey Crawford was pulled from the game after Tenute's second goal, and his replacement Mike Brodeur allowed a goal to Scott Barney at 19:42. The BEARS outshot the Admirals 17-7 and took a commanding 6-1 lead to the dressing room after two. Neither team would score in the third as HERSHEY won the club's 48th game of the season and improved to 108 points, the highest mark in the AHL.
