TORONTO, ON - Yann Danis made 39 saves and turned aside three of the five Toronto Marlies shooters in the shootout, earning his first shutout of the season and lifting the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 1-0 win on Saturday night at Ricoh Coliseum.
With the Bulldogs win and the Peoria Rivermen's 2-0 loss to the Manitoba Moose, Hamilton has now clinched a berth in the 2007 Calder Cup Playoffs. Through 76 games this season, the 'Dogs have 90 points with a record of 41-27-3-5.
After three scoreless periods, the game went to overtime. After overtime solved nothing, the contest was decided in a shootout.
In the shootout, Hamilton scored three times on four shots courtesy of Matt D'Agostini, Corey Locke and Kyle Chipchura. The Marlies could only muster two goals from Colin Murphy and Brent Aubin, as Danis shut the door on Alex Foster, Robbie Earl and Alexander Suglobov to seal the victory for the Bulldogs.
Danis, who was named the game's first star and the Pearson Dunn Player of the Game, earned his 22nd win of the season while Justin Pogge stopped 16 shots to earn his third shutout of the campaign but was credited with the shootout loss.
Hamilton was 0-for-2 on the power play while Toronto was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage.
