Matt Hendricks netted a shorthanded goal at 12:28 of the first period as the Bears led 1-0 after twenty minutes
Norfolk briefly tied the game midway in the second period. Carl Corazzini sent a pass from behind the goal line to the slot. Kris Versteeg collected the pass on his backhand, turned around and fired a shot past Hershey goaltender Frederic Cassivi stick side at 6:13.
However, Hershey scored five unanswered goals to close out the second period with a 6-1 lead. Kyle Wilson netted a power play goal at 10:49 to make it 4-1 Bears. Tenute's second goal of the period at 14:26 marked the end of the game for Crawford. Scott Barney closed the second period with a wraparound that beat new Norfolk goaltender Mike Brodeur at 19:42.
Neither team found the back of the net in the final frame.
Crawford (17 shots, 12 saves) was saddled with the loss. Brodeur (16 shots, 15 saves) did not receive a decision. Cassivi (29 shots, 28 saves) got the win.
