P-Bruins Eight-Game Win Streak Ends with 5-3 Loss in Syracuse
December 17, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Syracuse, NY - The Providence Bruins fell to the Syracuse Crunch Friday night 5-3, snapping their eight-game win streak. The P-Bruins got goals from Anton Blidh, Josh Hennessy and Zach Senyshyn while McIntyre made his 16th start of the season in net.
Each team came in riding long winning streaks and opened the first period with serious offensive firepower. Despite being shorthanded, Providence grabbed a 1-0 lead 2:13 into the game thanks to Blidh. He stole the puck at the blueline, broke away from the defense and backhanded his fourth goal of the season by Louis Domingue. Carter Verhaeghe tied the game 65 seconds later off a nice centering feed from Anthony Cirelli, but Hennessy quickly regained the lead for Providence. Sena Acolatse won a battle for the puck in the left wing corner and sent a centering feed out to Hennessy. He shot a wrister from the bottom of the circle in for his fourth goal of the season as Providence took a 2-1 lead just 21 seconds after the Crunch tied it.
The rest of the first was all Syracuse as they ended the period with three unanswered goals. Adam Erne was the beneficiary of a fortunate bounce, as he tried to send a centering pass to his teammate but the puck deflected off a Bruin and into the net to tie the score 2-2 at 11:20. Less than two minutes later, Michael Bournival's eighth goal of the season gave the Crunch their first lead of the night as he put home a rebound off Dominik Masin's shot. Erne's second goal of the period and eighth of the season at 15:27 gave Syracuse a 4-2 lead into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second period, the Crunch added to their lead at 5:04 of the third. Erik Cernak fired a shot towards McIntyre with Kevin Lynch stationed in front. He was able to get a piece of the puck for his sixth goal of the season as Syracuse went up 5-2. Senyshyn was able to get one back for Providence, as at 11:56 he used his speed to net his fifth goal of the season. Flying up the right boards, he drove hard to the net and put a shot on Domingue. He made the initial stop, but the rebound went out to Senyshyn and he put the puck in the open net. That is as close as Providence would get, as their winning streak came to an end with a 5-3 loss.
McIntyre stopped 23 of 28 shots while Domingue stopped 24 of 27. Providence was 0-3 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins will look to start a new winning streak tomorrow night in Hershey when they continue their eight-game road trip against the Bears at 7pm.
