
P-Bruins Defeat Wolf Pack 3-2

Hartford, CT - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-2 Saturday evening in overtime at the XL Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Mikko Lehtonen and two goals from Guillaume Lefebvre. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, December 11 at 7:05 p.m. for Winter Hat Night against the Lowell Devils.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 2:48 mark of the opening period. Andy Wozniewski took a shot from the blue line and Kirk MacDonald picked up the rebound and took a shot himself. The second rebound went to Lefebvre and he put it into the net for his third goal of the season. Hartford tied the game at one at the 10:58 mark. Corey Locke tallied his 12th goal of the season, while Jordan Owens and Ilkka Heikkinen recorded the assists. Providence retook the lead at the 14:15 mark, while shorthanded. Andrew Bodnarchuk sent the puck out of his own zone to Drew Larman giving the P-Bruins a 2-on-1 advantage. Larman found Lefebvre open in front of the net, where he scored his second goal of the game and fourth goal of the season. The P-Bruins led 2-1 going into the first intermission.
Hartford tied the game at two at the 16:28 mark of the second period. Paul Crowder netted his fifth goal of the season, while Heikkinen and Dale Weise picked up the assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at two.
After a scoreless third period the game went into overtime. As time expired on a Wolf Pack power play Trent Whitfield picked up the puck and fed it to Lehtonen, who was coming out of the penalty box, giving him a breakaway. He shot the puck into the upped right hand corner of the net for the game winning goal and his eight goal of the season. The P-Bruins went on to the 3-2 overtime victory.
Kevin Regan stopped 39 of 41 shots for the P-Bruins, while Chad Johnson made 35 saves for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins were 0-for-5 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins are back in action Wednesday against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Arena at Harbor Yard at 7:00 p.m. Providence continues their road trip Friday at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee against the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m., before wrapping up the week Saturday at the Cumberland County Civic Center against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets for the 2009-10 season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
