BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators closed out a stretch of three games in three nights tonight as they hosted the Rochester Americans.
Following two scoreless periods of play in which the B-Sens outshot the Amerks 22 to15, five unanswered third period goals, two short handed and two on the power play, propelled Binghamton past Rochester, handing the Amerks only their third loss of the 2009-10 season.
Chris Holt made his B-Sens debut between the pipes stopped all 27 shots faced for the shutout.
As Denis Hamel served a penalty for goalie interference 41 seconds into the third, Martin St. Pierre opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, short handed on a breakaway. 57 seconds later, still on the penalty kill, St. Pierre stole the puck at the point and hit a streaking Josh Hennessy who put the B-Sens up 2-0 with his sixth goal in four games.
St. Pierre would hit Derek Smith who fired a laser just inside the blue line which Hamel deflected past Rochester's Tyler Plante on the power play to give the B-Sens a commanding 3-0 lead five minutes into the period.
Binghamton added insult to injury with the game's only even-strength goal at the 11:36, Erik Condra who recorded five shots on the Amerks net in the game, finally found the back of the net putting the B-Sens up 4-0. Condra would also net Binghamton's second power play goal of the night just over a minute later, sealing Rochester's fate and pushing the B-Sens to the 5-0 lead. St. Pierre's assist on Condra's second goal was his third of the night, and fourth point in the game.
The B-Sens return to action at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Friday, Dec. 4 for a 7:05 p.m. game as they host their East Division rivals, the Syracuse Crunch.
