Providence Bruins News Release
Hartford, CT - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-2 Wednesday night at The Hartford Civic Center. The P-Bruins got a goal from Petr Kalus and two goals from David Krejci. Providence is now on a five game winning streak and has 45 points with a 21-18-1-2 record, only two points out of second place in the Atlantic Division.
The P-Bruins took the 1-0 lead at the 8:40 mark of the opening period. The Wolf Pack turned the puck over in its own end and the puck came to Krecji in between the circles. He was wide open and with a wrist shot sent the puck past Hartford net minder Steve Valiquette. Providence extended their lead at the 11:19 mark. Kris Versteeg controlled the puck in the Wolf Pack zone while shorthanded. He sent a centering pass to Krecji, who waited for Valiquette to make a move then put the puck around him and into the net. Providence went into the first intermission leading 2-1 after giving up a shorthanded goal with only 13.5 seconds left in the period. Dwight Helminen had the goal with Greg Moore grabbing the lone assist. Earlier in the period Moore was awarded a penalty shot, but P-Bruins goaltender Jordan Sigalet made the save.
After a scoreless second period the P-Bruins took a two goal lead at the 4:05 mark of the third period. Nathan Dempsey cleared the puck out of the Providence zone and sent it to Kalus. He skated into the Wolf Pack end and waited for a player trailing the play, but no one was there. Instead he took the shot and sent the puck over the left shoulder of Valiquette and into the net to give the P-Bruins a 3-1 lead. The goal turned out to be the game winner as the Wolf Pack pulled within a goal at the 18:29 mark. With the net empty and the extra attacker on the ice Jarkko Immonen won the face and Nigel Dawes took a shot from in between the circle which went top shelf into the P-Bruins net. Providence held on for the last 1:31 and went on to the 3-2 victory.
Sigalet stopped 28 of 30 shots he face for the P-Bruins, while Valiquette made 12 saves for the Wolf Pack. Providence was 0 for 7 on the power play, while Hartford went 0 for 4 on the man-advantage.
