Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 2-0 this evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, extending their win streak to four games. Craig Cunningham and Carter Camper scored for the P-Bruins and the win marked the 100th of Anton Khudobin's professional career.
Still riding the momentum from their shootout win in Connecticut on Saturday, the P-Bruins came out flying against the Sound Tigers. The P-Bruins drilled Kevin Poulin with shots right off the face off and danced around the Bridgeport defense. Their hard work paid off on the man-advantage at 8:19 of the first frame when Jordan Caron found Camper low along Bridgeport's goal line. Camper fed Cunningham back door who easily beat Poulin with a one-timer for his fifth goal of the year. The P-Bruins defense stalwarted any offensive attempts from the Sound Tigers and Khudobin was solid between the pipes to send Providence into the first intermission leading 1-0.
Providence continued to dominate Bridgeport in the second period, with the trio of Caron, Cunningham and Camper dangling the Sound Tigers' defense. The P-Bruins' chemistry paid off at 10:27 on the power play. David Warsofsky passed to Steve Kampfer at the top of the slot, who found Camper back door. Poulin couldn't make across the crease quick enough and Camper easily put the puck home for his seventh goal of the season. The P-Bruins kept the Sound Tigers off the board for the remainder of the frame to go into the final frame leading 2-0.
The P-Bruins continued to dominate all facets of play in the third frame. Despite some quality scoring chances, they couldn't find the back of the net for the third goal. On the other end, Khudobin was flawless, making impressive sprawling saves to preserve the P-Bruins 2-0 lead.
Khudobin's 32 saves earned him the win, the 100th of his professional career. Poulin suffered the loss, blocking 37 of 39 Providence attempts. The P-Bruins went 2-for-7 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins open a four-game road trip after the holiday, making stops in Manchester, Portland and Springfield before closing out 2011 in Manchester on New Years Eve.
