Bridgeport Islanders News Release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Dec. 18, 2011) - Anton Khudobin made 32 saves for his second shutout for the season as the Providence Bruins scored twice on the power play to defeat the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 2-0 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday afternoon. Providence improves to 13-15-1-2. The Sound Tigers drop their sixth straight decision and fall to 11-14-3-1.
Providence took a 1-0 lead early in the first period via the power play. After a charging penalty to the Sound Tigers' Trevor Frischmon, the P-Bruins made some quick passed through the slot before the puck landed on Craig Cunningham's stick. Cunningham fired the puck past Kevin Poulin for his fifth goal of the season as Providence led 1-0 8:19 into the game.
The Bruins doubled their lead with another power play goal midway through the middle frame. Poulin made a few impressive saves at the start of the Sound Tigers penalty kill, but was unable to stop Carter Camper who received the puck by the left post and lifted the puck over Poulin for Providence's second power play goal of the game at 10:27 of the second period.
The Sound Tigers spent most of the remaining 29-plus minutes in the Bruins zone, but Khudobin was up to the task. The Sound Tigers recorded 11 of the first 14 shots on goal in the final period, but were denied the back of the net for the second consecutive game. The Sound Tigers pulled Poulin, who earned third star honors stopping 37 shots, with 90 seconds left in regulation, but Khudobin held off the Sound Tigers final push as Providence prevailed.
The Sound Tigers return home for their annual post-Christmas battle with the Connecticut Whale on Monday, Dec. 26 at 7:00 p.m.
