Rivermen Streak Ends in Milwaukee
December 18, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
Jake Allen made 26 saves and Brett Sterling scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season but it was not enough as the Peoria Rivermen fell Sunday night 3-1 to the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center. The loss snapped Peoria's three-game winning streak in their final game before a week off.
Their next game will be Monday, Dec. 26 against Chicago at Carver Arena. The Rivermen now have a record of 14-15-1-1 and sit in fourth in the Midwest Division.
The Rivermen scored the first goal of the game courtesy Sterling at the 8:59 mark of the first period. While laying on his back Sterling took a couple whacks at a loose puck that eventually found its way across the goal line. T.J. Hensick and Derek Nesbitt were awarded assists on the play.
The Admirals tied the game at 10:13 of the second period on a delayed penalty. With the puck behind the net, Chris Mueller passed the puck to Kyle Wilson who beat Allen for his fifth goal of the season.
A Michael Latta goal gave Milwaukee a 2-1 lead with just under five minutes to play in the second. The original shot was blocked and the puck rolled to Latta who fired the puck top shelf for his ninth goal of the year. Taylor Beck and Ryan Thang were credited with the assists.
At 15:05 of the third Milwaukee took a 3-1 lead. Kyle Wilson and Chris Mueller exchanged some nice passes to one another before Mueller tapped one into the back of the net for his 10th of the season.
In the final minute of regulation Milwaukee took two minor penalties. The Rivermen pulled their goaltender to make it a six on three advantage but could not beat Atte Engren. He finished with 29 saves and held the Rivermen scoreless for the final 51:01 of the game.
The Rivermen outshot Milwaukee tonight 30-29 and both teams were unable to score on four power-play chances.
The Rivermen play host the Chicago Wolves on Monday, Dec. 26 at Carver Arena. For tickets stop by the Peoria Civic Center box office, call 309-676-1040 or visit www.rivermen.net.
