December 18, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release
The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that center Ben Holmstrom has been recalled from the Adirondack Phantoms, according to Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren. Holmstrom will be eligible to play in the Flyers next game on Monday night in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche.
Additionally, the Adirondack Phantoms have called up center Andy Bohmbach from the Trenton Titans of the ECHL. Bohmbach is expected to be in the lineup for Sunday afternoon's game against Binghamton and will wear number 10.
Holmstrom, 24, has played in three games with the Flyers in his career including one this season on November 2 at Buffalo. The UMass-Lowell product was the Adirondack Phantoms team MVP for 2010-11 in his rookie season scoring 16 goals and 22 assists for 38 points while playing in 79 out of 80 games with the Phantoms as well as two games with the Flyers.
Holmstrom is on a three-game goal scoring streak with Adirondack and has eight goals and eight assists on the year. In Saturday night's victory at Syracuse, he converted on the team's first penalty shot opportunity of the season after getting hauled down on a breakaway early in the third.
At the beginning of the season, Holmstrom was awarded the C on his sweater and became the youngest captain in Phantoms history. The previous youngest captain was Boyd Kane, now with the Hershey Bears, who was 25 years old in 2003 when he was captain of the Philadelphia Phantoms.
Andy Bohmbach is up with the Phantoms for the third time this season. The second-year pro out of the University of Wisconsin made his Phantoms debut on October 14 versus Bridgeport. Bohmbach was called up again for the November 4 game at Springfield. In two games with the Phantoms he has zero points.
Bohmbach has spent the majority of the season with the Trenton Titans of the ECHL where he has been lighting it up to the tune of 21 points in 21 gams on 13 goals and eight assists. Last year, he starred for the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL in the Chicago Blackhawks system and led all rookies in that league with 28 goals and 72 points. He also played in six games in the AHL last season with the Rockford (IL) IceHogs.registering two assists.
