BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators fell at the hands of the Worcester Sharks 5-2 Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. With the victory the Sharks sweep their two-game regular season series against the B-Sens, after posting a 2-1 win in Worcester on Dec. 3.
Nathan Moon, Sean Sullivan, and Tommy Wingels each scored a goal and an assist for Worcester, who has now gone 7-0-0-1 in their last eight games.
The B-Sens grabbed the lead within the final five minutes of the first period. Mark Borowiecki blasted a shot in from the point, which Mike Bartlett tipped home at the 15:28 mark. David Dziurzynski picked up the secondary assist on the goal, earning his third point in two games.
The Sharks rebounded scoring three goals in the first half of the second period.
In the opening five minutes of the second Moon forced a neutral zone turnover, feeding the puck to Jack Combs whose centering feed found Brodie Reid. Reid snapped it home at the 5:05 mark to even the score.
1:20 later, John McCarthy tipped in the rebound of Wingels' point shot to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead. Wingels then stretched that lead to two goals, scoring his 11th of the season at 10:08.
Mark Parrish pulled the B-Sens back within one, notching his team-leading fifth power play goal of the season at 12:16 of the period. Rob Klinkhammer and Corey Locke drew the assists.
Sullivan would reclaim the two-goal lead for the Sharks before the period came to a close. Stephane Da Costa took down the forward on a short-handed break, resulting in a penalty shot. Sullivan capitalized to give the Sharks a 4-2 edge at 16:50.
Moon added an empty-net tally with 56.5 seconds remaining in regulation.
Mike McKenna made his second straight start in goal for Binghamton, stopping 34 of 39 shots as he fell to 4-8-0 on the season. His counterpart Tyson Sexsmith stopped 31 of 33 to improve to 7-5-3.
Binghamton and Worcester both ended the night 1-for-4 on the power play.
The B-Sens travel to Adirondack tomorrow to take on the Phantoms at 3 p.m. Fans can listen live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM) beginning 30 minutes before game time for Countdown to Faceoff with Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens.
