
P-Bruins Defeat Devils 4-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils 4-2 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Mikko Lehtonen, Trent Whitfield and Vladimir Sobotka. The P-Bruins next home game is Sunday, October 18 at 4:05 p.m. for Brad Marchand Poster Night against the Portland Pirates.
After a scoreless opening period, the P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 6:45 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Andy Wozniewski held the puck at the left point and passed it to Jeff Penner at the right point. He took a shot and the puck was redirected to Lehtonen, who scored his third goal of the season. Providence went ahead 2-0 at the 9:55 mark. Jeff LoVecchio banked the puck off the glass through the neutral zone for Lehtonen. He found Whitfield crashing the net as Whitfield tallied his third goal of the season. The P-Bruins led after two periods 2-0.
Lowell cut the lead in half at the 5:06 mark of the third period, while on a 5-on-3 power play. Tyler Eckford netted his first goal of the season, with Matt Taormina and Ben Walter recording the assists. The P-Bruins retook a two-goal advantage at the 11:58 mark. Brad Marchand held the puck in the corner and fed Whitfield in the slot. He found Sobotka in front of the net, who tallied his second goal of the season. The P-Bruins went ahead 4-1 at the 16:43 mark, while on a 5-on-3 power play. Sobotka held the puck behind the net and sent it to Lehtonen halfway up the boards. He found Wozniewski just inside the blue line, who netted his second goal of the season. Lowell pulled back within two goals at the 18:37 mark, while on the power play. Matthew Corrente grabbed his first goal of the season, with Rob Davison and Michael Swift picking up the assists. The P-Bruins held on for the 4-2 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 29 of 31 shots for the P-Bruins, while Mike McKenna made 38 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 2-for-9 on the power play and 6-for-8 on the penalty kill.
