P-Bruins Announce "Sigalet Saves for MS" Program

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced they are partnering with Serono, MS LifeLines and goaltender Jordan Sigalet to launch the "Sigalet Saves for MS" Program. For every regular season game during the month of April, Serono will donate $20 for each save Jordan Sigalet makes to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Rhode Island chapter.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, progressive disease of the central nervous system and is the most common neurological disease causing disability in young adults. Approximately 400,000 Americans are estimated to have MS, and every week about 200 people are diagnosed. Worldwide, MS may affect 2.5 million individuals. The onset of MS usually occurs between 20 and 40 years of age, and is twice as common in women than men.

Serono is a global biotechnology leader committed to bringing hope to people suffering from multiple sclerosis. The company manufactures two therapies for the treatment of MS. Serono also provides the MS LifeLines program, which is an educational support service developed for people with MS by people with MS. MS LifeLines Ambassadors - including Jordan Sigalet - serve as an example and resource in the MS community by providing guidance, support and empowerment about living well with MS. Sigalet is entering his rookie season. In 35 games this season with Providence, Sigalet is 18-11-2 with a 2.62 GAA and an 89.7 save percentage. He made his NHL debut on January 7 in a 6-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning playing 43 seconds. Before turning pro, he played four seasons at Bowling Green State University where in 102 career collegiate games he had a 34-46-16 record with a 2.98 GAA and a 91.5 save percentage. In his junior season at Bowling Green he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and following his senior season he was nominated by ESPN for the Best Comeback Athlete ESPY. The New Westminster, British Columbia native is the All-Time Leader in save percentage at BGSU and second all-time in GAA. Last season, Sigalet was named to the All-CCHA Second Team and was a Hobey Baker Finalist. After the 2003-04 season, the goaltender was named to the All-CCHA First Team and led the nation in minutes played (2210:02), saves (1,140) and shots faced (1,241). He was the Boston Bruins sixth pick, 209th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

A check will be presented by Serono, the Providence Bruins and Jordan Sigalet to the National MS Society's Rhode Island chapter before one of the first round playoff games.
