WEEK IN REVIEW
Friday, March 24: Phantoms 5, Albany 2 - Stefan Ruzicka took first star honors with a pair of power play goals in a 5-2 win over the Albany River Rats. Tony Voce, Brent Kelly, and John Slaney contributed a goal apiece, while Martin Houle took the win for the Phantoms with 30 saves on 32 shots.
Sunday, March 26: Phantoms 4, Portland Pirates 1 - Tony Voce played a part in every Phantoms goal, ending the night with four points in a 4-1 victory over the Atlantic Division-leading Portland Pirates Sunday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. All four goals for the Phantoms were scored on the power play, running their streak to six consecutive games with at least one power play tally. Jim Campbell and Matt Ellison bagged the other two Philadelphia goals. Martin Houle finished the night with 26 saves on 27 shots.
UPCOMING OPPONENTS
Wednesday, March 29: Phantoms vs. Norfolk, Wachovia Spectrum, 7:05 - The Phantoms play host to the Norfolk Admirals this Wednesday on Poker Night at the Spectrum. Norfolk begins the week in 3rd place in the East Division with a record of 36-26-4-4 for 80 points. The Admirals are coming off a 5-3 loss to the Portland Pirates on Saturday night.
Friday, March 31: Phantoms vs. Bridgeport, Wachovia Spectrum, 7:05 - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers come into Philadelphia on Friday night for the eighth and final meeting of the season between the two teams. The Sound Tigers start the week in fourth place with a record of 36-28-4-3 for 79 points. Before coming to Philadelphia, they will play host to the Hershey Bears on Wednesday.
Saturday, April 1: Phantoms at Hershey, GIANT Center, 7:00 -The Phantoms will travel to the GIANT Center on Saturday for the last time this season. The Bears came out on top the last time these two teams met back on March 4 by a score of 4-3. Hershey sits in second place in the East Division with a record of 41-19-3-10 for 95 points.
Sunday, April 2: Phantoms vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Wachovia Spectrum, 6:05 - The Phantoms finish their four-game week against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Penguins lead the division with a record of 45-16-5-5 for 100 points. However, the Phantoms have had the Penguins number of late, picking up wins in the last two meetings.
All three games will be carried live online through the B2 Networks, while Wednesday's game will also be broadcast online by 610WIP.com. BIG WEEK AHEAD WITH THE PHANTOMS
This Wednesday is Poker Night as the Phantoms host this special event. Fans will be able to try their luck with interactive casino fun around the concourse during the game. Then on Friday, join the Phantoms for Faith & Family Night. After the game, fans will be able to stick around for a postgame concert from 2005 Dove Award-winner Sanctus Real. Sunday is Media Night at the Spectrum, with local media celebrities taking part in on-ice events at intermission.
VOCE NOMINATED FOR AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Phantoms nominated Tony Voce for CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week consideration this week. The Philadelphia native registered his second four-point game of the season in Sunday's 4-1 win over Portland, giving him five points in the team's short two-game week. On Friday, Voce scored the first goal of the game just 1:35 in to start a 5-2 win over Albany. Then on Sunday, Voce figured in all four of Philadelphia's goals, grabbing assists on the first two and scoring the second two. Voce was named the first star of the game on Sunday and earned third-star honors on Friday. Voce is now on a six-game scoring streak, which ties a Phantoms season high, and has points in 10 of his last 11 games. In those ten games, he has 14 points: 10(5/9/14).
PHANTOMS NOTABLES
In the last nine games, Philadelphia's power play has operated at 36.4 percent (16 for 53). The Phantoms were 4-for-9 in Sunday's win, the second time this season they've scored four power play goals in a game. For the season, the Phantoms are 25th in the league in PP percentage at 14.3---Beginning Wednesday, the Phantoms play eight games in a stretch of 12 days that ends on April 9. They'll four games in five nights each of the next two weeks before ending the season with back-to-back games on the 14th and 15th---Nine of Philly's final 10 games are against Norfolk, Hershey or Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (3 each). Six of the 10 games are at home---A total of eight players registered at least two points in a game this weekend. Four players accomplished the feat on Friday, and four different players did it on Sunday.
YOUNG PHANTOMS HEADED TO NATIONALS
The Philadelphia Phantoms Tier I 14 & Under team is headed to the USA Hockey National Championships in Rochester, NY this week. The team received a send-off at Sunday's game, sharing the blue line with the AHL Phantoms starters for the pre-game festivities. With a convincing 9-0 win over the New Jersey Colonials on March 11, the Bantam squad qualified for USA Hockey's premier youth event. The team finished first in the Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL) with a 27-1 record and then defeated the Colonials twice in the District Finals to earn a spot at USA Hockey's Nationals. The Bantam AAA title will be decided in a five day, 12-team tournament, with the championship game on April 2.
THIS WEEK IN THE PHANTOMS ATTIC
Bidding ends Tuesday night for the six items currently on sale in The Phantoms Attic, the team's online Ebay store. This week's auctions include Josh Gratton's and Rejean Beauchemin's St. Patrick's Day jerseys, Craig Brunel and Alain St. Hilare game-worn jerseys, a Ben Eager autographed game-used stick, and an uncut sheet of trading cards from the 2004-05 Calder Cup championship season. Watch for new auctions to begin later this week!
SCOUT-A-RAMA THIS WEEKEND; PHLEX TO TAKE ON ALL COMERS IN PINEWOOD DERBY
If you're a Boy Scout or a Cub Scout, this weekend is for you at the Wachovia Spectrum! Prior to each game, the Phantoms will be holding a Scout-A-Rama on the Spectrum concourse, where Scouts of all ages will be able to fulfill their advancement requirements as well as have some great fun with the game of hockey. In addition, Phantoms mascot Phlex will be taking on all comers with his undefeated Pinewood Derby Phlexmobile! The Scout-A-Rama runs from 4-6 PM on Friday and 3-5 PM on Sunday, and your ticket includes admission to the Phantoms game afterwards.
