(Orem, UT) - The Owlz (26-41) couldn't catch the Rocky Mountain Vibes (30-37) on Thursday night, losing the second game of the series, 10-7, at the Home of the Owlz.
The Owlz opened the scoring with a solo homer for the second straight game. With two outs in the second inning, Justin Kunz blasted a ball over the left-center field wall, his first of the season, giving the Owlz a 1-0 lead.
Rocky Mountain took their first lead of the series in the third inning. Cam Devanney tied the game by lining a single to let with one out in the inning. The next batter, Ernesto Martinez, hammered a ball over the right field wall, a three-run homer, giving the Vibes a 4-1 lead.
D'Shawn Knowles picked up his second hit of the game in the bottom of the third inning and then scored when William Holmes singled to left, cutting the Owlz deficit to 4-2.
Rocky Mountain extended their lead in the sixth inning thanks to a RBI single by Arbert Cipion and a Gabe Holt sacrifice fly, pushing the Vibes' lead to 6-2. Rocky Mountain added another run in the seventh inning thanks to a Jose Sibrian RBI double, extneding the lead to 7-2.
The Owlz cut into the deficit in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and one out, William Holmes drove in three runs with a double to center, his second hit of the night, cutting the Vibes' lead to 7-5.
Rocky Mountain got those three runs back in the ninth to take a 10-5 lead before William Holmes collected his third hit of the game, smashing a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth but it wasn't enough as the Owlz fell 10-7.
Abner Uribe (1-0) earned the win while Kelvin Moncion (2-3) was charged with the loss. The Owlz and the Vibes will finish the series on Friday night at 6:35. Friday night is Angels' hat giveaway presented by the Los Angeles Angels. For tickets, visit oremowlz.com or call the Owlz at (801)-377-2255.
