Owen's Stellar Performance Leads Cat's to Victory

The Moncton Wildcats got back to their winning ways thanks largely to goaltender Shane Owen, who made countless of highlight reel saves in front of a crowd of 6,237 at the Moncton Coliseum to lead his team to a 4-1 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Owen made 27 saves while Thomas Flynn and James Melindy scored their first goals in the QMJHL. Brandon Gormley and Alex Saulnier also scored for the Cats. Zach O'Brien countered for the Titan and Olivier Roy stopped 24 shots in the losing cause.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead at 2:14 of the 1st period when Gormley's blast from the point found its way into the net on the powerplay. The Titan responded with a few quality score chances of their own, but Owen shut the door. The Wildcats doubled their lead at 16:47 when Flynn's shot from just inside the blue line found its way past Roy.

The Wildcats opened up a 3-0 lead 2:54 into the 2nd period as Melindy took a shot from the right faceoff circle and beat Roy. Moments later the Cats could have put the game away but hit the crossbar. In the last minute of the period with the Titan on a 5 on 3, Owen made a highlight reel save, diving across his crease to deny the Titan of the first goal of the game.

The Titan finally got on the board at 13:30 of the 3rd period, break Owen's bid for his 2nd shutout of the season. Zach O'Brien fired a slap shot top corner of Owen's right shoulder to cut the lead to 3-1. However, at 17:33 the Cats restored their three goal lead. Pettersson was sprung on a semi breakaway, he was stopped by Roy but Saulnier was there to bang the back into the open net.

On the powerplay Moncton was 1/4 while the Titan went 0/6. Finally shot tally in the game was 28-28.

Wildcats are back in action tomorrow night as they welcome the Halifax Mooseheads to town. Game time is 7PM.
