Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

For two years, the Centre Marcel Dionne had produced nothing but negative memories for the Lewiston MAINEiacs. However, after a successful QMJHL Entry Draft in June, the tides are beginning to turn. On Friday night, those tides continued to turn, as the MAINEiacs scored three times in the third period for a 5-4 comeback win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs in front of 2,790 fans.

The Voltigeurs struck first, thanks to a player being in the right place at the right time. Jonathan Brunelle tossed a shot toward the net from the left wing boards. The puck deflected off of Ondrej Palat, and dribbled in past a confused Nicholas Champion for the first goal of the contest. Less than three minutes later, Drummondville added to their lead, as Marc-Olivier Vachon smacked in the rebound of Sean Couturier's initial shot.

Towards the end of the opening stanza, the MAINEiacs got on the board, as Pierre-Olivier Morin set up Etienne Brodeur for a shot from the bottom of the right circle. Brodeur picked the top corner over Domenic Graham's glove, netting his 15th goal of the season.

Early in the second period, Lewiston evened the score. Alex Zafiris picked up a loose puck in the slot, and fired a wrist shot past the blocker of Graham for the equalizer. The goal was Zafiris' first in the QMJHL. Later in the frame, the Voltigeurs regained the lead. Andrew Randazzo's point shot was stopped by Nicholas Champion, but the rebound kicked out to Ondrej Palat, who finished off his second of the night.

The MAINEiacs came out storming in the third, scoring three times in the first 4:55. Michael Chaput knotted the game at three at the 49-second mark, burying a centering pass by Pierre-Olivier Morin. 34 seconds later, Francis Beauvillier took a pass from Jess Tanguy, before slipping a backhander through the Graham's legs. A little more than three minutes later, Tanguy scored a goal of his own, spinning a shot in from the slot. Drummondville's Jean-Philippe Mathieu brought his team within one with 12:30 remaining, but this night belonged to Lewiston, who skated away with the 5-4 victory.

Nicholas Champion earned the win, stopping 30 of the 34 shots he saw for his tenth victory of the season. Domenic Graham suffered the loss, allowing five goals on 25 shots, before being replaced by Jean-Philippe Boucher, who stopped all ten shots he faced in relief.

The MAINEiacs will return home this week to begin a five-game homestand on Wednesday night at 7:00 against the Quebec Remparts.
