
Owens and Jakaitis Lead Stingrays over Royals

Reading, PA - Forward Jordan Owens recorded two assists and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 27 saves to help the South Carolina Stingrays (1-0-0-1) defeat the Reading Royals (1-1-0-0) 3-2 at Santander Arena Sunday evening.
Royals forward Stanislav Galiev broke open the scoring early in the contest slipping a shot past Jakaitis at 3:07 from defensemen Michal Cajkovsky and Patrick Wey. The Stingrays responded with a power-play tally from forward Scott Campbell at 5:37 with help from forwards Peter Boyd and Owens. Stingrays forward Marc Hagle made it 2-1 with his first professional goal beating Royals netminder Brandon Anderson (L, 19 saves on 22 shots) at 8:02. Forwards Justin Maylan and Igor Gongalsky added assists.
Forward Chris Langkow buried the eventual game-winning marker shorthanded completing a 2-on-1 rush with Owens at 9:21 of the final period. The Royals pulled the game within one with four seconds to play on a tally from forward David Marshall. The Stingrays finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play while the Royals went 0-for-3.
The Stingrays wrap up a three-game season-opening road trip Friday, October 25 against the in-state rival Greenville Road Warriors at 7:00 p.m. at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena and celebrate Opening Night, Stingrays Alumni Game, Zooperstars! and 2013-14 schedule giveaway presented by Savage Law Firm on Saturday, October 26 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum vs. the Road Warriors.
