Outlaws' Holleran Earns Fifth Win; Outlaws Drop Flyers 9-3

(Chico, CA. June 30th, 2010) The Chico Outlaws got another great pitching performance from a starter, this time Garret Holleran, and downed Orange County 9-3 in the series finale at Nettleton Stadium on Wednesday night. The win also gave the Outlaws a series win over the Flyers, their 11th series win of the year.

Holleran (5-1) went seven innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, striking out five while walking just one.

The Flyers got a run in the second inning to get the party started on an RBI single by Derek Perren to drive in David Harris, who doubled with two outs, and put the Flyers up 1-0.

Chico answered back in the third when Holleran tripled and then came home when leadoff hitter Mitch Einertson singled, tying the game at 1-1.

In the top of the fourth, Orange County plated another solo run when Jimmy Rohan singled and plated on a Harris RBI single, making the score 2-1.

The game was tied again after the bottom of the fourth. Catcher Mike Rose singled and two batters later, came home on a Pascual Del Real sac fly to even the tally at two apeice.

The Outlaws busted the game wide open in the home half of the fifth. Einertson led off the frame with a single and went to second when Bobby Hill was hit by a pitch by Flyers' starter Kevin Altman (1-2). One batter later, Mikael Jova reached base on a fielder's choice, with Hill being forced out at second. That set the stage for Rose's eighth homerun of the year, a three-run blast, putting Chico up 5-2.

Orange County got their final run in the sixth on a sac fly from Sergio Pedroza after Tyler Keeble and Jimmy Rohan singled to lead off the inning, cutting the Outlaws lead to two runs at 5-3.

The seventh inning saw three more Outlaws touch home plate, this time off reliever Jesse Smity. With one out, Hill walked, followed by consecutive singles by Ismael Castro and Jova. Rose then walked, cashing in Hill for the first run of the inning. Left fielder Rich Janeway then hit a sac fly to score Castro, making it 7-3. One batter later, Del Real walked with the bases loaded and it became an 8-3 game in favor of the home team.

Mitch Einertson hit a solo homerun, his fifth of year, to put a cap on the scoring at 9-3.

Rusty Jones and Matt Perisho pitched one inning each in relief for the Outlaws, who improved to 26-9 on the year. The Flyers fell to 14-19 with the loss.

St George comes calling to the Nett on Thursday night to begin a four-game holiday weekend series against the Outlaws. Leftie Demetrius Banks takes the ball for Chico looking for his fifth win of the year.

OUTLAWS NOTES: Eri Yoshida's next start is set for Friday July 2nd against St George at 7:05 pm at the Nett.....Catcher Hank Lanto joined the team today and was on the active roster, but did not play in the game...21 times this season the Outlaws have went for 10+ hits in a game; the 12 hits tonight were the first time in six games the Outlaws accomplished the feat against Orange County.
