Tucson Toros News Release

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros jumped out to an early lead and held on to win it 6-5 to take the second game of their three game series against the Yuma Scorpions Wednesday night.

The Toros quickly took charge of the game by scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning thanks to an RBI double to right by LF Lino Garcia that was later followed up with a 3 run shot by 1B Cristobal Santana. The home run was his third of the year and gave the Toros an early 4-0 lead.

Santana finished with 2 hits that extended his hitting streak to 17 straight games, tying him with 3B Wally Backman Jr. for the longest by a Toro this season.

In the 3rd inning, Yuma cut the Toros lead in half when Scorpion 2B Peeter Ramos hit an RBI single to right and CF Jonal Pacheco got an RBI on a fielder's choice later in the inning to make it 4-2.

The Toros went up 6-2 after RF Francisco Plasencia's RBI single in the 3rd and 2B Jose Valdez's long RBI double to center in the 4th. Yuma once again pulled within 2 runs in the top half of the 5th when Scorpion's 3B Santo DeLeon and RF Timothy Rodriguez both hit RBI singles to make it 6-4 Tucson. Rodriguez's RBI was his 48th on the season, first amongst all GBL batting leaders.

Yuma pulled within a run in the 9th but Toros Closer Emiliano Fruto shut it down and struck out Rodriguez for the final out and earned his 5th save on the season. RHP Andrew Snowdon earned his 2nd win after 2 2/3 innings of work while striking out 6.

Be there tomorrow night as the Toros go for the sweep in their final game of the homestand against rival Yuma and be sure to enjoy dollar beers, soft drinks, and lemonade for two hours after the 7:00 p.m. first pitch because it's Thirsty Thursday!
