Capitals Come Back In Calgary

f game one in the Golden Baseball League's Battle of Alberta is any indication, fans are in for a treat any time the provincial rivals meet this season. You'd almost think it was a football game with the final score as the Capitals came from behind to outslug the Vipers 14 - 11 in Calgary Tuesday night. The two teams combined for thirty-four hits and the Caps posted some big numbers in the later innings rallying with four runs in the sixth inning and another three runs in the seventh inning just to catch up on the scoreboard. Then it was newcomer Enrique Cruz who blasted a solo home run in the eighth inning to give the Caps their first and only lead of the game. Matt Rogelstad added some insurance with a two-run double in the top of the ninth inning. Cruz also added a couple of RBI singles earlier in the game and finished 3 for 5 at the plate.

Cliff Brumbaugh went deep again and is still tied for second in the league with nine home runs. Ryan Stevenson also went yard for the Caps. New pitcher Jesse Oster came in the middle innings and struck out five in just three innings of work. He also managed a couple of doubles and scored a run to help his own cause.

Edmonton is now back to .500 on the lengthy road trip with a record of 5 - 5 and their overall record improves to 18 - 15. That's the first of seventeen meetings between the two clubs this year including the next five games. The two teams will meet again at Foothills Stadium in Calgary on Wednesday before returning to Edmonton for the second half of a home and home series.
