Edmonton Capitals News Release
Calgary, AB - The Edmonton Capitals are on a three game winning streak after posting another big number in Calgary against the Vipers. Edmonton pounded out nineteen hits for the second night in a row and cruised to a 15 - 5 victory Wednesday night. This time the Caps did not have to come from behind after jumping out to a 13 - 0 lead before Calgary found the score sheet. First basemen Tom Collaro had the biggest night offensively for Edmonton batting 3 for 5 including a three-run home run in the top of the first on his way to a whopping seven RBI! That vaults him up to thirty-six on the year, just four shy of the team lead held by Cliff Brumbaugh. Ryan Stevenson also went 3 for 5 at the dish. Newcomer Enrique Cruz also picked up a couple more hits and has an impressive .476 batting average since being acquired earlier in the road trip. Even starting pitcher Clinton Nageotte got in on the action pitching seven strong innings with three strikeouts and chipped in with a 3 for 5 night at the plate with an RBI.
Edmonton wraps up the longest road trip of the year so far with a 6 - 5 record away from TELUS Field and the three game winning streak gives them an overall record of 19 - 15. However, the Chico Outlaws also won Wednesday night which means Edmonton remains six and a half games back of first place in the North Division.
The home and home series shifts to TELUS Field for the next couple of games. The Capitals big Canada Day celebration is set for 7 o'clock. The game will feature a ceremonial first pitch from Olympic medalist Meaghan Mikkelson from the Women's National Hockey team that struck gold at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver earlier this year.
TELUS Field is also the perfect venue to cap off the night with a great vantage point for the City of Edmonton's fireworks show.
Families looking for Canada Day festivities can take advantage of this 4 for $44 Thursday. This deal includes 4 reserved grandstand tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 Pepsi for just $44. There will be face painters, balloon artists and all the usual family-fun activities at a Capitals home game. The first 2,000 fans to the ballpark will also receive a Canada mini-flag to celebrate our nation's birthday.
