Late Jail Break Leads to Outlaws Win

CHICO, Calif. (June 30, 2010) - Chico broke open a close game scoring seven runs from the fifth inning on, defeating the Orange County Flyers, 9-3, at Nettleton Stadium on Wednesday night. Orange County dropped to 14-19 while the Outlaws improved to a league best 26-9.

For the second straight night Chico's strong pitching limited the Flyers offense as starter Garret Holleran tossed seven innings giving up three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Holleran (5-1) earned the win, with Rusty Jones and Matt Perisho each throwing a scoreless inning of relief.

Outlaws catcher Mike Rose, a former Los Angeles Dodger, broke a tied game with a three-run homerun with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, giving Chico a 5-2 lead.

After Orange County got a run back on a Sergio Pedroza sac fly in the sixth, the Outlaws padded their lead in the seventh, drawing a pair of bases loaded walks off Jesse Smith and adding another run on a sacrifice fly for an 8-3 lead. Mitch Einertson led off the bottom of the eighth with a homerun to make it 9-3.

Kevin Altman (1-2) took the loss for Orange County, giving up five runs on eight hits in five innings pitched in his second start of the year. Mike Koons and Andre Simpson also saw action out of the bullpen.

Orange County is off Thursday before beginning a 17-game home stand on Friday against first place Maui at 6:05pm.
