Round Rock Express News Release
SACRAMENTO - The Texas Rangers announced Monday that outfielder Joey Butler had his contract purchased from Triple-A Round Rock while fellow outfielder Engel Beltre has been recalled from Round Rock.
Beltre rejoined the Express on Friday after playing 13 games with the Rangers, hitting .300 (9-for-30) with a double, two RBI and five runs scored in his first major league action. He made his major league debut on June 26 as a pinch runner at New York (AL). Beltre played three games as a designated hitter, five in center field, three in left field and two in right field with the Rangers. Upon his arrival back to Round Rock, he played in two games with the Express before his recall. In 74 games with the Express this season, Beltre batted .302 (91-for-301) with four home runs and 21 RBI.
Butler will be in his first major league action after having his contract purchased. The outfielder had spent the entire season with the Express, batting .290 (101-for-348) with 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 97 games. Butler had hit in three straight games for the E-Train and has been a steady force in the outfield for the Express over the years, earning team MVP honors last season before being named the Rangers' Minor League Player of the month in April of 2013.
With these moves, the current Express roster sits at 23 active players with one major league rehab and three on the disabled list.
The Express takes on the Sacramento River Cats tonight in game three of a four-game set at Raley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. CST as right-hander Jake Brigham (4-3, 4.07) is scheduled to take the hill for the Express to be opposed by Sacramento's Travis Banwart.
