Round Rock Express News Release
SACRAMENTO - The Round Rock Express (62-54) lost their second straight game to the Sacramento River Cats (62-54) with a 3-1 final Sunday night at Raley Field.
The River Cats got to Express starter Scott Richmond early, posting a run in the first inning. Jemile Weeks led off with a double and scored two batters later to give Sacramento the 1-0 lead.
Richmond settled in and allowed just two hits over the next four innings of work. He unraveled in the sixth, giving up a one-out walk to Michael Taylor who advanced to third on a double in the next at-bat. Richmond intentionally walked River Cats' Jake Goebbert to load the bases with one out. The next batter hit a sacrifice fly to plate Taylor. Shortstop Andy Parrino hit a single to score the third run of the game, making it 3-0 Sacramento. That would close the books on Richmond as he failed to record the final out of the inning. He went 5.2 innings and took the loss, dropping to 4-5 on the season.
The Express offense managed just three hits in the first seven innings with a runner advancing to scoring position just once. Catcher Robinson Chirinos led off the eighth inning with a walk and advanced to second two batters later on a ground out. Leury Garcia gave the Express their first and only run of the game on a single, platting Chirinos. With a man on base, Engel Beltre went down on strikes to end the inning.
River Cats starter Bruce Billings got the win to improve to 11-5 on the season. Express relievers Wilmer Font and Johan Yan combined to close out the final 2.1 innings, not allowing a single hit while striking out three.
The Express and River Cats continue the series with game three of four tomorrow night. Round Rock will send RHP Jake Brigham (4-3, 4.07 ERA) to the mound to counter Sacramento's RHP Travis Banwart (7-5, 4.75 ERA).
