Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

FRESNO -- Juan Perez hit a game-tying home run in the fourth inning and had a game-ending diving catch in the ninth inning to lead the Fresno Grizzlies to a 2-1 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Sunday night at Chukchansi Park.

The Isotopes (63-53) have lost five in a row. They've scored nine runs in six games on this road trip. Since the all-star break, the Topes are 7-11. They fell to three games out of first place in the PCL's American Southern division, as Oklahoma City won its 10th consecutive game tonight.

Fresno (55-60) won its sixth consecutive game. The Grizzlies are 11-6 since the all-star break.

The only Albuquerque run came in the third inning. Drew Butera doubled to right-center to leadoff the frame, and Brian Barden doubled with two outs to score him.

Fresno starter Eric Surkamp struck out eight and walked two in seven innings. George Kontos pitched a scoreless eighth.

Heath Hembree struck out two in the ninth inning to pickup his 26th save. Last night, Hembree set the Grizzlies franchise record for saves in a season. Tonight, Hembree tied the Grizzlies franchise record for career saves (41), alongside Manny Aybar from 2002.

Topes starter Matt Magill allowed one run in six innings, a solo homer by Perez in the fourth. Magill whiffed eight, walked three and allowed three hits.

The go-ahead run scored in the seventh when reliever Sean White walked two and allowed a single to load the bases. Rob Rasmussen, the scheduled starting pitcher Monday night, walked Johnny Monell on four pitches to force in the go-ahead run. That was the only batter Rasmussen faced. Peter Moylan got the final four outs.

Game three of the four-game series against the Grizzlies, the Giants affiliate, is Monday night. First pitch is at 8:05 pm Mountain Time and all the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
