Dyson Does It All in Win over Reno

August 5, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The 25-year-old allowed four hits in six scoreless innings to earn the win, and hit the first home run of his professional career as the New Orleans Zephyrs cruised to a 7-3 win over the Reno Aces on Monday night.

Dyson (1-0), who skipped the Triple-A level en route to making his Major League debut with the Toronto Blue Jays last season, owned a 2.63 ERA with Double-A Jacksonville before being sidelined for a month with a back injury.

In his first start with the Zephyrs on Monday, he scattered four hits across six innings, and with the help of three double plays turned by the Z's defense, allowed only one runner to reach second base.

After the Zephyrs gave him a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a ground out by Joe Mahoney to cash in a Kyle Jensen leadoff double, Dyson took matters into his own hands in the fifth, driving a home run deep over the left field wall against Trevor Cahill, who was making a rehabilitation start from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Bryan Petersen followed with a solo shot of his own, marking the second time this season Zephyr batters hit back-to-back round trippers. Koyie Hill's RBI double and a subsequent walk to Kevin Kouzmanoff chased Cahill (0-2) from the game.

Shawn Camp came out of the bullpen, but Nick Green tagged him for a three-run home run with two outs, capping off a six-run inning, matching the Zephyrs' highest-scoring inning of the season.

Reno broke up the shutout bid in the ninth, scoring three times with two outs off Chris Hatcher. Taylor Harbin hit a soft single to right to score the first run, and Tony Campana's blooper fell into shallow left for two more runs before Hatcher got Josh Wilson to ground out to end the game.

The Zephyrs conclude the homestand on Tuesday at 7 p.m. A win would complete a 6-2 homestand and return the Z's to the .500 mark for the first time since July 19.
