Greenville, SC: Travis Ouellette scored two goals to power the Road Warriors to a 4-3 shootout win on Sunday completing the three-game weekend sweep against the Evansville IceMen.
The first period began with the Evansville Icemen scoring 3:30 into the period when Tristan King received a pass from Matt Schepke and scored on Jeff Malcolm after a turn over by the Road Warriors. Greenville had 13 shots on goal throughout the period, but was held off by netminder Mike Clemente.
The Road Warriors scored 9:16 into the second period when Ouellette tied the game with a power play goal off a pass from Joride Johnston and Ryan Hegarty. Just over one minute later, King scored again for the Icemen on the power play to give Evansville a 2-1 lead. With seven minutes left in the period, Nathan Moon of Evansville scored off a pass from Joe Lavin to give the Icemen a 3-1 lead heading into intermission. Jeremy Langlois also assisted on both Evansville goals in the second.
The Road Warriors pounded goaltender Clemente with several shots and constant pressure in the third period. With six minutes left in regulation, Marc-Olivier Vallerand unleashed a slapshot past Clemente on the power play to put the Road Warriors down by one. One minute later, Ouelleette scored on a two-on-one and tied the game up at three. Both teams were unable to get a lead in the last minutes which forced overtime.
The extra five minutes of overtime was not enough to settle the score and forced a shootout. During the first four rounds, the shootout score was tied at two. Vallerand and Johnston scored for the Road Warriors while King and Schepke scored for the IceMen. Andrew Rowe potted the shootout winner with Malcolm saving the final shootout attempt to win the game 4-3.
