Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (19-10-3-2) lost their grip on a 2-0 third period lead to fall to the Idaho Steelheads (18-12-2-2) 4-2 at the Budweiser Events Center on Saturday night.
Just over 13 minutes into the first frame, Colorado forward Kyle Ostrow beat Steelheads netminder Pat Nagle after stealing the puck off an Idaho pass attempt to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.
Eagles forward Luke Fulghum netted the puck from between the hashes, 8:26 into the second period, to pump Colorado's lead to 2-0.
The Steelheads were determined as ever to not allow another shutout by the Eagles. Forward William Rapuzzi caught the puck off a rebound to score Idaho's first goal of the two-game series 3:57 into the final stanza and closing the gap at 2-1. Less than one minute later Idaho forward Rob Linsmayer tied the game at 2-2 as he re-directed a shot from the point from defenseman Charlie Dodero. The Steelheads would take the 3-2 lead with less than seven minutes left in the contest as forward Austin Fyten put Idaho's third puck past Cheverie from between the circles. Idaho finalized their 4-2 win with an empty-net goal from Fyten with only three seconds left in the third.
The Eagles head to San Francisco to face off with the Bulls on Wednesday, January 15 before heading to Ontario for a pair of games against the Reign on Friday and Saturday.
