Otters Wrap Up Five-Game Stand
November 13, 2008 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League complete a five-game home stand this Friday and Saturday with a pair of 7 p.m. games against the Owen Sound Attack at the Tullio Arena.
Friday's game is sponsored by Express Employment Professionals with the first 500 fans into the game receiving a stress puck. Saturday it's Ronald McDonald House Charities Night with the first 1,000 fans receiving a McDonald's chicken biscuit breakfast sandwich coupon.
Tickets for both games are available at all Erie-area Ticketmaster locations, the Civic Center Box Office, on-line at www.ottershockey.com or by calling 814-452-4857.
The Otters enter the two-game set as winners of the first three games of the home stretch, including a confidence-building 4-2 victory over the CHL No. 1 ranked Windsor Spitfires on Saturday, to move to 10-9-1-0 on the season.
Jaroslav Janus led the way for the Otters last week. The 19 year-old goaltender went 3-0 with a 1.34 goals against average and a .959 save percentage. The second year goalie started the week with his second shutout of the season in a 31-save performance as the Otters topped the Barrie Colts 3-0 on Wednesday. Friday Janus made 29 saves in a 5-2 victory over the Peterborough Petes and he capped the week with a 34-save performance as the Otters upset the Spitfires. On the season the Slovakia native, who has won eight of his last 10 starts, sports a record of 10-7-1-0 with two shutouts, a 2.94 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.
Owen Sound heads into weekend action with a 7-8-3-1 record (prior to a game Thursday night against Niagara) and coming off a 4-0 victory over the Kingston Frontenacs on home ice on Saturday.
Owen Sound has struggled on the road this season with two wins in nine tries (2-6-1-0). The Attack have lost three straight on the road and have registered only one road regulation victory since opening the road portion of their 2008-09 schedule with a win in Kitchener against the Rangers.
Joey Hishon leads the Attack in scoring with 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points in 19 games. The second year forward's point total is tied for the sixth most in the League and, despite the fact that he hasn't scored a goal in five games (he has registered five assists), his 13 goals are also tied for the sixth most in the OHL. The 17 year-old, who was selected eighth overall in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection, has been a consistent offensive force for Owen Sound having not gone more than one game this season without a point.
Both games Friday and Saturday can be heard live on FOX Sports Radio AM 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. Saturday's game can also be seen live on the Image Sports Network starting at 7 p.m.
