Evansville Otters News Release

Rockford, IL - The Otters got a much needed pitching gem from Kyle Dahman Thursday night at Road Ranger Stadium, defeating the Rockford Riverhawks 5-2. After surrendering 24 runs in the first two games of the series, the Otters prevailed in the finale with great pitching and timely hitting.

Dahman (1-1) allowed only two runs (one earned) in six innings, but his most amazing feat was striking out eleven Riverhawks. He struck out the side in the first and second inning and had ten strikeouts through four innings. Ben Paxton tossed two scoreless frames and Justin Smith needed only four pitches in the ninth inning to record his tenth save.

The Otters scored in the second inning on a two-out Tyler Diamond single and in the third inning on Frank Meade's RBI knock. The Otters loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth, and scored on a Marcus Rose infield single and a Jeremy Strack ground ball double play.

Tyler Diamond added a little insurance in the ninth inning with a solo home run to centerfield, his third of the year.

Riverhawks starter Brett Durand (7-4) lost for the first time in over a month. He gave up four runs (three earned) in seven innings. The 'Hawks tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning when Brandon Cohen and Robert Sabates led off with back-to-back doubles. They cut the deficit to 4-2 in the sixth inning when Derrick Walker scored from second on an Andre Liscinsky error.

The Otters continue their nine game road trip on Friday taking on the Gateway Grizzlies at 7:05pm CDT.
