River City Rascals News Release

O'FALLON, MO - The Rascals rebounded from a tough loss last night with 18 runs and 23 hits, crushing the Windy City ThunderBolts 18-4 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark Friday night. The win pulled the Rascals to within a half game of the Bolts for first place.

River City (39-30) started early with six in the first and four in the second to stun Windy City. Chris Colton cleared the bases in the first with a bases loaded double to put the Rascals up 4-1. Danny Sawyer made it 6-1 with a two run blast off Dustin Pease (8-5).

The Rascals tallied four more in the second on five hits. Scott Robinson singled home Scott Houin and Chad Maddox followed with a three run home run for a 10-2 cushion.

Pease didn't make it out of the second, allowing a season high ten runs on ten hits in 1.2 innings.

River City didn't let up throughout the night, scoring eight more times in the next six frames. Bryan Resnick knocked in a couple of runs in the fourth and seventh while Houin plated three on two bases loaded walks and a double. Colton topped off the scoring with a three run shot in the eighth for the 18-4 final.

Pablo Lopez (2-2) picked up the win with five innings of four run ball. The Bolts connected on four solo home runs against Lopez, who allowed eight hits with three strikeouts.

Formal Rascal, Pete Paris, launched a solo home run in the first to give the ThunderBolts a very brief lead. Vinnie Scarduzio, Bryan Cook and Gilberto Mejia all had solo home runs in the contest.

Numerous single game records fell in the game, including five runs scored by Robinson and six runs batted in for Colton. Houin was on base six times with two doubles, two singles and two walks. Robinson and Maddox each reached base six times, but were retired on a fielder's choice and catcher's interference respectively.

Houin, Maddox and Robinson all had four hits while Colton, Wehrle and Resnick settled for three base hits. Sawyer also had a multi hit game with a home run and a single.

Chris Ingoglia tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing only three hits with five strikeouts.

Same two teams are back at it tomorrow night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. A pair of All-Stars will take the mound in Ross Stout (9-2) and Jake Laber (7-4). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
