Evansville Otters News Release
Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things (5-8) put on an offensive show at Falconi Field in the opener of their three game series against the Evansville Otters (6-7). The Wild Things displayed how to score after two men were out in the inning as their first nine runs were scored after two men were out in the inning en route to an 11-3 win on Wednesday.
The victim of all that offense was Otters starter Casey Abrams (0-2) who just couldn't seem to finish off the Wild Things hitters after two men were out. Abrams left after three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on ten hits, walking two and striking out a pair. Washington starter Cory Hahn (2-1) was not nearly as strong as his numbers would suggest, but he was the benefactor of all that offense to pick up his second win of the season. Hahn went six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits, with a couple walks and four strikeouts.
The loss ends a four game winning streak for Evansville, their longest of the season. The loss also marked the most lopsided defeat to date for the Otters, as the pitching staff was tagged with a season high in hits (16) and runs (11).
The story of the night was a six run fourth inning for the Wild Things, as they had a runner at second with two out against Abrams when the fun began. Three straight singles, a walk, a hit batter and a double were all that Casey could survive. Reliever Anthony Del Prete's first pitch was promptly singled up the middle for another run, but further damage was averted on the first collision of the year at home plate as Rickey Clinton held on to Dale Mueller's throw from center for the final out of the tumultuous inning.
The Otters broke their homerless streak as Matt Edwards went deep in the top of the fourth inning, stopping the streak at sixty-six innings. Interestingly enough, it was Edwards who hit the last home run for the team as well. Dale Mueller also extended his hitting streak to a league best ten games with a 2-4 night. Tim Burgess led Evansville's attack with a 3-3 night, his best game to date.
Washington got a big night from several players, including Lance Koening (3-5 3 RBI), Mike Arbinger (3-5), Andy Hudak (1-4 2 RBI) and Jason Boyd (1-4 2 RBI).
The matchup in the second game of the series pits right-hander Chris Pillsbury against southpaw Tom Cochran. First pitch is slated for 6:05 Central Standard time.
