Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
Steve Shippey pitched seven innings of one-run baseball and Justin Holmes had a pair of hits as the Traverse City Beach Bums beat the Windy City ThunderBolts 7-1.
Traverse City opened the scoring in the second. With runners on second and third and one out, Clay Blevins hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Doug Garcia and moving Nathan Gravley to third and putting TC up 1-0. The offense was not done as Steve Young tallied his second RBI of the season singling into left field, scoring Gravley and making it 2-0 Traverse City. Justin Holmes followed with an RBI double down the left field line, bringing Young around to score and making it 3-0 Beach Bums.
The Beach Bums made it 4-0 in the fourth inning when Holmes and Nick Batkoski led off with back-to-back doubles. TC made it 7-0 in the sixth inning as they led off the inning with four straight base hits off the bats of Kevin White, Nathan Gravley, Clay Blevins and Steve Young; Blevins' hit was a double.
Windy City tried to rally in the seventh. The ThunderBolts were able to get a run on two hits and an error. However, Shippey was able to get out of the game on a couple of flyouts with only the one run across.
Shippey (2-1) was strong, tossing his third straight quality start going seven innings allowing three hits and one run. Josh Glynn (0-3) took the loss for Windy City allowing all seven runs in five-plus innings.
The Beach Bums and ThunderBolts continue the series on Thursday night with Tony Casoli (1-0, 3.75) will start for TC with John Hummel (1-1, 4.50) starting for Windy City. Game time is set for 8:05 p.m.
