Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, defeated the Evansville Otters 11-3 in the teams' series opener at Falconi Field Wednesday.
The Wild Things jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one inning, on the strength of an RBI single by Catcher Brandon Ketron. Designated hitter Lance Koenig added to the lead in the second with an RBI single of his own.
In the top of the fourth Evansville cut the Wild Things' lead in half when third basemen Matt Edwards smacked a solo home run, but the Wild Things responded in the bottom of the fourth with a six-run inning to take the lead 8-1 and put the game out of reach.
Starting Pitcher Corey Hahn (2-1) took the win giving up only one earned run in his six innings. Hahn yielded seven hits, walked two and struck out five.
Several Wild Things contributed to an offensive charge that saw every starter reach base. Rightfielder Mike Arbinger went 3-5 with two doubles and an RBI while Koenig was 3-5 with three RBI and added his second home run of the season in the seventh inning. First baseman Andy Hudak (1-4) also slammed his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth.
