Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters professional baseball team announced today the signing of relief pitcher Nathan Stone.

Stone has two years of experience in the Frontier League posting a career ERA of 2.16. Last season with Springfield-Ozark, Stone was 2-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 33 relief appearances. The Fort Branch Indiana native ranked second on the Ducks in saves with eight after assuming the closer role when fellow reliever Randy Vanderplow was signed by the New York Yankees organization.

In 44.1 innings in 2004, Stone struck out 49 batters while only walking 11. He has averaged 9.54 strikeouts per nine innings in his two year minor league career.

To make room for Stone on the roster, Evansville released 1B/3B Nick Shay. Shay saw limited action in the first three games of the season. He was hitless in his only at-bat which came in the ninth inning of Friday night's game against Chillicothe.

There are still good seats available for the final two games of the Otters opening weekend series with the Ohio Valley Redcoats. Sunday's game is Evansville Youth Baseball/Softball day where all little leaguers in their uniforms will receive free admission. Evansville will also have their first fireworks night presented by Ameriqual on Monday May, 30th with the game starting at 7:05pm. For tickets, the Otters sales staff can be reached at 435-8686.
