Richmond Roosters News Release

Washington, Pennsylvania – The Roosters lost 8-3 on Saturday night despite a solid starting performance by pitcher Curt Moenter. Rain earlier in the day caused a 30 minute delay and made for a cold and damp evening, but Moenter pitched five strong innings and struck out eight in his first start of the season. He ran into trouble in the first and third innings, putting runners in scoring position with less than two outs, but managed to hold off the Wild Things both times.

The wheels fell off for Richmond in the sixth, however, when Washington scored five runs off the Roosters' bullpen. The Wild Things continued to swing the bats and added three more runs the final three innings Kristopher Regas and Fred Moses both pitched in relief for Moenter, but combined to give up all eight of the runs scored by the Wild Things including a three run jack by second baseman Bruce Baldwin.

The Roosters scored two of their three runs in the top of the 5th, when Mike Reese slapped a RBI single to right field, scoring Joe Rhomberg. They scored again on the next at-bat when Kevin White grounded the ball to the left side and Washington 3rd baseman, Lance Koenig, threw the ball into right field while attempting to start a double play. Josh Hollingsworth gave the Roosters a third run in the eighth by hitting a solo home run, his second of the year.

The Roosters also made a player move Saturday by adding Ty Herriott to the roster. Herriott has just finished his college career at Oakland University in Michigan and was immediately placed in the starting lineup at first base. He recorded his first professional hit in the fourth inning.

Richmond has two games left against Washington before a day off Tuesday. Jared Howton will toe the rubber at 5:35pm on Sunday. Howton will make his first start since 2003 and it will be against his former team, Howton won the Frontier League "Pitcher of the Year" Award in 2002 with Washington. Brendon Davis will start for the Wild Things (3-1) as the Roosters (1-3) attempt to even the series at one game apiece.
